Chinese carmakers are finding a bigger place in Pakistan’s auto market, putting pressure on existing players to give buyers more reasons to choose their vehicles.
Changan appears to be taking that route with its Oshan X7, introducing a new Black Edition with a darker look and a few upgrades.
The changes are not major, but they give the SUV a noticeably different identity. The new variant also comes as Changan continues to offer different deals and packages on the Oshan X7 to attract buyers.
Called the Oshan X7 Black Edition, the new version gets a full black treatment on the outside and inside.
At the front, Changan has replaced the regular chrome grille with a blacked-out design. The standard Hyperblade alloy wheels, which have a matte silver finish, have also been replaced with new Black Turbine wheels finished in glossy black.
The same theme continues inside the cabin. While the other X7 variants come with Terracotta upholstery, the Black Edition gets black leather seats. Black accents have also been added to the doors, dashboard, centre console and seat belt areas.
There is one notable functional upgrade as well. Changan has replaced the standard audio system with Sony speakers, making it the only major change to the variant that is not purely cosmetic.
According to PakWheels, the Oshan X7 Black Edition is priced at Rs8.549 million. That is Rs100,000 more than the current top-spec X7, which is priced at Rs8.449 million.
The price puts the Oshan X7 Black Edition in an interesting part of the market. Buyers spending a little more can also look at SUVs such as the Haval H6, while those looking to spend less have options such as BYD’s Atto 2.
Still, the Oshan X7 has a larger and more substantial road presence than the Atto 2, giving it a different appeal for buyers who want a bigger SUV.
The all-black treatment may also make the extra Rs100,000 easier to understand. Blacked-out grilles, wheels and chrome trims have become popular among car owners, with many paying aftermarket shops to paint or wrap these parts.
In some cases, those modifications can cost close to the premium Changan is asking for the Black Edition.
The difference is that the Black Edition gets the look directly from the factory. The finish should be more consistent, while buyers also get the Sony audio system and an all-black cabin without having to modify the car themselves.
For buyers who already like the Oshan X7, the Black Edition is less about getting a completely different SUV and more about getting a premium-looking version straight from the company.
