Pakistan has decided to appoint opening batter Sahibzada Farhan as their new T20I captain, replacing Salman Ali Agha, for the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka.

According to media reports, the Pakistan squad is set for major changes, with former captain Babar Azam, Shadab Khan, Naseem Shah and Fakhar Zaman likely to make their returns. Ahmed Daniyal, Saad Masood, Haider Ali and Mohammad Wasim Jr. are unlikely to retain their places, while star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi is also not expected to be included in the squad.

Farhan, 24, recently led a young Pakistan side at the 2026 Asian Games, guiding the team to the final for the first time. Pakistan secured the silver medal after losing the final to India by 19 runs. Under Farhan’s leadership, Pakistan will face Sri Lanka in three T20Is at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium from October 9 to 13.

Pakistan dominated the head-to-head T20I record, winning 18 of their 31 matches against Sri Lanka, while the Islanders have secured 13 victories. The upcoming series will be Sri Lanka’s first bilateral short-format tour of Pakistan since 2019. Pakistan won the previous three-match T20I series in Lahore 3-0.

After the T20I series, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and England will compete in a tri-nation ODI series in Rawalpindi and Lahore. The tournament will begin on October 18, with Pakistan facing Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi, while the final is scheduled for October 31 in Lahore.

Sri Lanka will then play a three-day warm-up match in Islamabad from November 4 to 6 before beginning a two-match Test series against Pakistan. The first Test is scheduled in Rawalpindi from November 9 to 13, followed by the second Test in Lahore from November 17 to 21.
