Hollywood actress Eva Marie Saint dies aged 102

Oscar-winning Hollywood actress Eva Marie Saint has died at the age of 102, according to her representative.

Saint died of natural causes at her home in Los Angeles on Tuesday, surrounded by family and close friends, representative Jeff Sanderson said.

She had a career spanning nearly seven decades and became known for her work in both film and television.

Saint made her film debut in the 1954 drama On the Waterfront, starring alongside Marlon Brando.

Her performance as Edie Doyle earned her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and established her as one of Hollywood’s leading performers.

She later starred opposite Cary Grant in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1959 thriller North by Northwest, playing a woman caught up in an international espionage plot. The film became one of the most celebrated thrillers of its era.

Over the course of her career, Saint worked with several major Hollywood stars, including Paul Newman and Warren Beatty.

Her success also extended to television. In 1990, she won an Emmy Award for her performance in the television film People Like Us.

Saint continued acting into her later years, appearing in films including Superman Returns and Winter’s Tale.

Her final screen appearance came in the 2019 film Mariette in Ecstasy.

Away from the screen, Saint was married to television director Jeffrey Hayden for nearly 65 years. They had two children.

Hayden died in 2016.

Saint’s career, which began during Hollywood’s golden age, spanned generations of cinema and television and included some of the industry’s most acclaimed films and performers.
