No mobile signals? Here’s how you can still make calls

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has advised mobile phone users to use Wi-Fi calling to stay connected in areas where mobile signals are weak or unavailable.

In an awareness message, the regulator highlighted Wi-Fi calling, also known as Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi), as an alternative for making calls when traditional mobile network coverage is poor, particularly inside homes and offices.

The technology allows users to make calls through an available Wi-Fi internet connection instead of relying on conventional mobile network signals. However, the service is available only on supported devices and through mobile operators that offer the facility.

The PTA advised users to check their phone settings for the Wi-Fi calling option and activate it if available. Once enabled, users can connect to a Wi-Fi network and make calls in areas with weak cellular coverage.

The authority also recommended contacting mobile operators to confirm whether the service is supported and to learn how to activate it.

The PTA noted that the availability and effectiveness of Wi-Fi calling depend on the user’s device, mobile operator and internet connection.
