Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has departed for London for a five-day visit, during which he is expected to undergo a comprehensive medical check-up and hold other meetings.
Nawaz Sharif left for London from his residence in Jati Umra, Lahore, according to sources. During his stay, he is expected to undergo various medical examinations. Details of the check-up and his other planned meetings have not yet been disclosed.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called a high-level meeting to review the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to sources, the meeting will be held at the Prime Minister’s House under Shehbaz Sharif’s chairmanship and will be attended by key federal ministers and senior officials from the Ministry of Interior.
KP security situation under review
Officials from the Ministry of Interior are expected to brief participants on the law and order situation and security-related matters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The meeting is also expected to review reports on the provincial situation and discuss the government’s future strategy.
Sources said proposals concerning the possible imposition of an emergency or governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may also come under discussion. However, no final decision on either measure has been confirmed.
Federal consultations amid security concerns
Nawaz Sharif’s departure for London and Shehbaz Sharif’s decision to convene a high-level meeting on KP security come amid reports of federal consultations on the province’s security situation and possible constitutional and administrative measures.
