Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial has initiated steps to ease the financial difficulties of salaried individuals following complaints about advance income tax notices issued to employees.
According to sources, Langrial has taken notice of the notices being sent to salaried individuals and said there was no justification for collecting advance income tax from people who rely solely on their salaries.
Under the proposed relief measure, individuals whose only source of income is their salary will no longer receive advance income tax notices, sources said.
Salaried employees across Pakistan had reportedly been receiving quarterly advance income tax notices, creating concerns among workers already facing financial pressure.
However, individuals earning income from sources other than their salaries may still be required to pay applicable adjustable advance tax, depending on their circumstances.
Sources further said that any excess advance income tax collected from salaried individuals would be adjusted promptly to provide relief to affected employees.
The move aims to address concerns among salaried taxpayers and ease the burden of advance tax payments. The FBR has yet to be independently confirmed as having issued a formal notification detailing the reported changes.
