Pakistan has accepted an invitation to participate in the Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament that will be held in Malaysia next month, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has announced. PHF President Mohiuddin Wani said the participation would give Pakistan’s national players valuable international exposure and a chance to improve their skills by competing against international teams.

Commenting on the Canadian hockey team’s visit to Pakistan, Wani described it as a significant step towards reviving international hockey in the country. He said the visit would also strengthen sporting ties between Pakistan and Canada.

Wani emphasised that participation in international competitions was essential to developing hockey in Pakistan and improving national players’ performance.
He reaffirmed the PHF’s commitment to continuing efforts to bring international hockey matches to Pakistan.

Pakistan’s Under-21 hockey team is currently in Malaysia to participate in the Sultan of Johor Cup, where the young players will gain valuable experience by competing against international teams.

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) said it was implementing a comprehensive development strategy for the Under-18, Under-21, senior men’s and women’s teams to strengthen the country’s hockey structure. The strategy focuses on increasing international exposure, improving coaching standards and upgrading training facilities.

The federation is also planning to improve financial incentives and support systems for players to encourage better performances, ensure merit-based selection and provide talented youngsters with a clear pathway to the senior national team.

According to the PHF, regular participation in international tournaments, professional coaching and a structured player development system are essential to restoring Pakistan’s status as one of the world’s leading hockey nations.

Pakistan, which once dominated international hockey, is now focused on rebuilding its competitiveness through better preparation, improved training and increased participation in international events. The PHF reiterated its commitment to developing national teams at every level and providing Pakistani players with greater opportunities to compete on the international stage
