Following an end to what has been described as poor governance under Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the administration has launched a grand operation against land grabbers and encroachments in Peshawar, the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

As part of the campaign, an anti-encroachment operation was carried out along the Ring Road, where illegally constructed shops and other structures built on encroached government land were demolished.

According to the district administration, the operation will continue across Peshawar, with authorities planning a comprehensive crackdown on all identified encroachments. Officials have said that illegal structures will be removed wherever violations have been identified.

Meanwhile, the administration is also working on a plan to widen roads and improve traffic management across the city. Under the proposed strategy, authorities are considering converting several roads in the inner city into one-way routes to address persistent traffic congestion.

Officials believe that two-way traffic on narrow roads has been contributing to frequent traffic jams, causing serious inconvenience to commuters and residents.

The administration will also remove obstacles along the Grand Trunk (GT) Road to ensure smoother traffic flow, despite the road already having sufficient width in several sections.

According to sources, traffic congestion hotspots have been identified across the city, and measures are being planned to eliminate bottlenecks and improve the movement of vehicles.

The anti-encroachment operation has extended beyond the Ring Road to several other areas, including Saddar, Hayatabad and University Road.

Dedicated teams have been formed to carry out the campaign, remove illegal structures and reclaim government land occupied by encroachers.

The district administration has reiterated that the operation will continue in the coming days, with further action planned against identified encroachments.

The broader initiative aims to reclaim public land, improve road infrastructure and ease traffic congestion in Peshawar. However, the administration’s plans to introduce one-way traffic on inner-city roads are still under consideration.
