Water supply was suspended in various areas after a 54-inch-diameter water pipeline of the Water and Sewerage Corporation burst.

According to details, thousands of gallons of water went to waste as they flowed onto the roads after a 54-inch-diameter water pipeline of the Water and Sewerage Corporation burst in Shah Latif Town, Karachi, severely affecting water supply to several areas of the city.

Due to the damage to the main pipeline, water supply to Shah Latif Town, Bhains Colony, Landhi and adjoining residential areas was suspended, causing severe difficulties for residents.

Sources said that an illegal connection was allegedly being used by a lineman to steal water, during which the 54-inch pipeline was damaged and burst.

However, the Water Corporation has neither confirmed nor denied the alleged illegal connection so far.

According to the Water Corporation’s chief engineer, the pipeline was damaged during the day. However, teams took immediate action upon receiving the information, and repair work on the affected pipeline has been completed. Water supply will be restored soon.
