YouTube is introducing several changes to its Android and iOS apps, including custom feeds and a redesigned home screen.
Reportedly, the updates will make the YouTube homepage easier to use and help viewers find videos that match their interests.
One of the main changes involves the top navigation bar. YouTube is moving the Subscriptions tab from the bottom of the app to the top.
The company has been testing this design for several months and is now introducing it to users.
The Subscriptions button will appear next to the Home button.
Other feeds, including Live Music and Movies & TV, will also appear in the updated navigation area.
YouTube introduces major change
However, the major change is a new plus (+) button on the left side of the top bar.
Users can tap this button to create a custom feed based on a topic they choose.
Similarly, viewers can organise feeds around music, sports or other interests.
This new YouTube feature is designed to give users more control over the videos they see instead of relying entirely on the regular homepage.
Reportedly, people using YouTube for free will be able to save up to three active custom feeds.
Meanwhile, YouTube Premium subscribers will be able to save up to eight custom feeds.
New features rolling out
YouTube is initially introducing custom feeds to users in the United States.
The company is expected to expand the feature to other countries, although an exact international release date has not been announced.
The changes could make it easier for viewers to switch between their favourite topics without repeatedly searching for videos.
The redesigned navigation bar may also help users access subscriptions and other video categories more quickly.
