Paying sales tax on imported mobile phones, including Apple’s latest models, has become easy for Pakistanis.
Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has allowed individuals to pay sales tax on imported mobile phones in easy monthly installments through the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority Device Identification Registration and Blocking System.
The tax will be divided into equal monthly installments based on the number of months remaining in the financial year.
For instance: If you are importing a mobile phone in June, you must pay the entire sales tax by the end of that month (before the end of the fiscal year); otherwise, you will be declared a defaulter.
The first installment must be paid through a Payment Slip ID (PSID) generated when the application is submitted. Subsequent installments will be paid through separate PSIDs generated on the corresponding date of each following month.
If that date does not exist in a particular month, the PSID will be generated for the last day of that month.
Lowers taxes on imported mobile phones
In other good news, Pakistan has reduced the advance income tax on imported mobile phones priced between $101 and $200. The tax has dropped from Rs930 to Rs100 per handset.
The reduction means buyers in this price range will face a much lower advance income tax. The mobile handset levy has also been cut from Rs600 to Rs200.
