Hyderabad’s newly constructed road near Alamdar Chowk has sparked public outrage after electric poles were found standing in the middle of the route, giving it a bizarre “Subway Surfers-style” look. Residents have blamed poor planning, negligence and alleged corruption under the Sindh government for creating dangerous road conditions.

Work has reportedly begun to remove electric poles installed in the middle of a newly constructed road in Hyderabad. The road stretches from Alamdar Chowk to the N-5 National Highway.

What do citizens say about poor road infrastructure?

Residents criticised the poor planning and raised concerns about public safety. They said the poles could cause accidents and electric shocks, especially during rain.
One resident said the electricity lines were passing close to homes. He added that poles should have been removed before road construction began.
Residents also questioned why the poles were moved only after media reports brought attention to the issue. They called for proper planning and demanded that the remaining problems be fixed.

How many electric poles are being removed?

The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) has started removing 50 electric poles from the road.
According to HESCO officials, 27 poles have been removed so far. The remaining poles are expected to be removed by tonight.
Officials said a power shutdown has been arranged at the Qasimabad Grid Station near Alamdar Chowk to carry out the work.
The road was carpeted before the removal of the poles was completed. As a result, authorities have now closed the road to traffic to allow the work to continue.
The incident has sparked debate on social media about road planning and the safety of public infrastructure in Sindh.
