Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has successfully resumed its flight operations between Pakistan and China from October 30, restoring direct air connectivity between the capitals of the two countries.

Under the newly announced schedule, PIA will operate weekly flights between Islamabad and Beijing every Friday, providing passengers with a reliable, convenient and comfortable travel option between the two capitals.

The airline’s management has reiterated its commitment to providing quality services and improved passenger facilities while offering affordable and competitive fares.

Strategic partnerships with three chinese airlines

In a major move to expand its network to other key Chinese cities, PIA has strengthened its cooperation with three leading Chinese airlines: Air China, Shenzhen Airlines and Hainan Airlines.

The partnership with Air China will allow passengers arriving in Beijing to conveniently connect to domestic flights serving other cities across China.

Pakistan and China have a decades-long history of air connectivity. However, flight operations were disrupted during the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent travel-related challenges.

Despite these difficulties, Pakistani and Chinese business communities, students and diplomats had continued to call for the restoration of direct flights between the two countries.

Beijing has traditionally served as a major aviation hub for passengers travelling from Pakistan to different destinations across China.

Boost to geo-economic ties and a new era for CPEC

At a time when various projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) are progressing, the restoration of direct flights represents more than just improved air connectivity. It is also expected to strengthen trade, business and people-to-people relations between the two countries.

The partnerships with three Chinese airlines are expected to strengthen PIA’s position in the Chinese aviation market, create opportunities to increase revenue from air travel and further reinforce economic cooperation between Pakistan and China.

The development is being viewed as an important step towards strengthening bilateral ties and facilitating travel for businesspeople, students, tourists and other passengers.
