The Migrant Resource Centre Pakistan has issued important guidance for students planning to study abroad, outlining the requirements and procedures for opening a bank account in their destination countries.
According to the guidance, international students can open bank accounts with either traditional high-street banks or digital banking institutions, although specific requirements may vary depending on the country and bank.
The centre advises students to choose banks offering dedicated student accounts, preferably those with nearby branches, low service charges and convenient online banking facilities. Students are generally required to provide a valid passport, visa or residence permit, student ID card or proof of admission, and proof of residence in the host country, such as a rental agreement or other relevant documentation.
In some cases, banks may also request information about the student’s working hours or a specific identification number. The Migrant Resource Centre recommends checking whether online applications are available before visiting a bank. Students who need to complete the process in person are advised to book an appointment in advance to avoid unnecessary delays.
The account-opening process generally involves completing an application form and submitting the required documents. Some banks may also require an initial deposit to activate the account.
The centre has advised students to check their chosen bank’s specific requirements and account conditions before beginning the registration process.
