Web desk: Pakistan’s intelligence agencies have dealt a significant setback to the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISIS-K) with the arrest of its spokesperson Sultan Aziz Azam, according to official sources on Thursday.
Sultan Aziz Azam, the spokesman of ISIS-K and founder of the group’s official media wing, the Al-Azaim Foundation, was arrested by a top Pakistani intelligence agency.
Al-Azaim Foundation is considered the central platform for ISIS-K’s recruitment and propaganda operations.
Following Azam’s arrest, ISIS-K’s media activities were reportedly suspended. This is a serious blow to the group’s ability to spread propaganda and communicate with supporters, analysts say.
Pakistani authorities have carried out several high-profile arrests against ISIS-K in recent months.
The detention of Sultan Aziz Azam on May 16, 2025, is among the most significant actions taken against the organisation.
These developments were highlighted in the 16th report of the United Nations Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team.
The report states that Pakistan’s operations have weakened ISIS-K’s organisational structure at the global level.
According to the report, multiple planned attacks were foiled. Additionally, the number of ISIS-K fighters declined, and several key commanders and ideological leaders were neutralised.
The arrests of senior figures have led to a noticeable reduction in the group’s operational capacity. These include arrests of Sultan Aziz Azam and Abu Yasir al-Turki in May 2025.
As a result of these actions, major ISIS-K propaganda platforms have been shut down. It also includes “Voice of Khorasan.”
Before gaining prominence in ISIS-K’s media operations, Sultan Aziz Azam had reportedly served as an adviser to the Nangarhar Provincial Council.
