Journalist assaulted during KP CM’s visit to Lahore, action demanded

LAHORE: A senior journalist was assaulted in Lahore after asking a question during a press conference attended by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Sohail Afridi.

According to details, the incident happened during the KP chief minister’s visit to Lahore.
When a senior journalist Qasim Ahmed from Sach News  raised a question at the press conference, the chief minister’s guards attacked him.

He was allegedly held hostage and tortured by the guards as a result, Qasim Ahmed suffered injuries to his lips and neck. Doctors have examined him for neck pain and advised him to wear a neck collar.

The journalist community has strongly condemned the incident and demanded an apology

 Journalists said guards, who allegedly act with impunity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, taking the law into their hands in Lahore is alarming. They said attacking journalists for asking questions goes against democratic and journalistic values.

Journalists demanded immediate and transparent legal action against all those involved.

They also urged the government and law enforcement agencies to ensure journalists’ safety and demanded those responsible be brought to justice.
