Dense Fog halts Traffic Across Punjab, Motorways Closed

Dense fog causes closure of major motorways

Dense fog once again covered the plain areas of Punjab, including Lahore, on the night between Sunday and Monday, bringing routine life to a halt and severely disrupting road traffic, the private media channel reported.

The thick fog badly affected traffic movement in several cities. A Motorway spokesperson said authorities closed Motorway M-2 from Lahore to Kot Momin due to poor visibility. Officials also barred heavy vehicles from using Motorway M-3 between Faizpur and Jaranwala and Motorway M-4 from Pindi Bhattian to Abdul Hakim. Meanwhile, authorities shut Motorway M-11 from Lahore to Sialkot for all types of traffic.

Motorway Police said the safest time to travel during foggy conditions is between 10:00am and 6:00pm. They advised motorists to use the Grand Trunk (GT) Road where possible and urged drivers to slow down and switch on fog lights.

The police also appealed to people to stay at home and avoid unnecessary travel. Dense fog disrupted traffic at several points on the National Highway as well, with visibility dropping to between zero and 100 metres in some areas.

For assistance or guidance, the Motorway Police asked motorists to contact the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) helpline at 130.
