The Collectorate of Customs Enforcement Islamabad says it has seized 13 smuggled vehicles and foreign-origin goods worth more than Rs200 million.

The vehicles and goods were taken into custody in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) launched since June 15.

According to a statement issued by the department, the enforcement campaign targeted suspected smuggling networks operating in and around the capital.

Customs officials said the seized vehicles included Toyota Crown, Toyota Land Cruiser, Toyota Prius, Toyota Passo, Suzuki Alto and several heavy motorcycles. The total estimated value of the vehicles and other confiscated goods exceeds Rs200m.

As part of the operation, Customs teams also carried out raids on a number of retail stores and commercial outlets suspected of selling non-duty-paid imported products.

During the raids, officials recovered foreign-origin perfumes, cosmetics, food items, clothing and other products that were allegedly imported without payment of customs duties and taxes or in violation of the country’s import regulations.

The department estimated the value of the goods seized from retail outlets at around Rs15m.

Customs said all confiscated items had been taken into custody and legal proceedings had been initiated in accordance with the law.

The Collectorate of Customs Enforcement Islamabad said it would continue intelligence-led anti-smuggling operations, working with other law enforcement agencies to curb smuggling and protect government revenue.
