Ayaz Sadiq to attend Khalda Zia’s funeral in Bangladesh today

Pakistan’s National Assembly Speaker, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, after particular instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will travel to Bangladesh today to attend the funeral prayers of ex-Bangladesh prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

According to official sources, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq will represent the government and the people of Pakistan at the funeral ceremony of the former prime minister of Bangladesh, who passed away on Tuesday at the age of 80. The speaker of the National Assembly will also share condolences with Begum Khaleda Zia’s family in his capacity as a representative of Pakistan.

The National Assembly speaker will also meet the senior leaders of Bangladesh’s interim government during his stay in Dhaka. These engagements fall under Pakistan’s official diplomatic initiative after the death of Bangladesh’s most influential figure.  

The Government of Pakistan extended sympathies over Khaleda Zia’s unfortunate death. Pakistan, as a country, describes Khaleda Zia’s passing as a major loss for Bangladesh and the entire South Asian region. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar paid tribute to the former Bangladesh prime minister and expressed deep sorrow to her family.

The chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and a three-time Prime Minister, Khaleda Zia, passed away at the age of 80.

The party officials have confirmed her death, saying that she died on Tuesday morning while battling pneumonia, lung and heart infections, and liver cirrhosis.

She was in the hospital for quite some time, but could not recover from her illness.

Zia’s political career began after the assassination of her husband, President Zia-ur-Rahman, in 1981. After her husband’s death, she leads the BNP.

She became the first female PM of Bangladesh in 1991. She was selected as the PM once again between 2001 to 2006.
