Pakistan may see a fall in electricity prices soon.

According to reports, the price is expected to drop by Rs0.72 per unit under the monthly fuel adjustment mechanism.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will take up a plea moved by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) regarding the reduction in electricity prices today.

In November, 39.16 per cent of electricity was generated from hydropower, 9.34 per cent from local coal, 5.06 per cent from imported coal, and 8.44 per cent from gas.

In another development, petrol could fall by up to Rs10.60 per litre, while high-speed diesel may decrease by Rs8.59 per litre.

Moreover, Kerosene is expected to become cheaper by Rs8.92 per litre, and light diesel oil could see a reduction of Rs6.62 per litre.

Officials have prepared a plan to significantly reduce petroleum product prices over the next 15 days, following a sharp decline in crude oil prices on the international market.

The final decision will be announced today.

Most of the transport sector runs on high-speed diesel. Its price is considered inflationary as it is mostly used in heavy transport vehicles, trains, and agricultural engines like trucks, buses, tractors, tube-wells, and threshers, and particularly adds to the prices of vegetables and other eatables.
