Web desk: Murree weather on New Year’s Eve is expected to be cold with a high probability of rain and snowfall. If you are planning a trip, it is advised to take measures accordingly.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rain and snowfall in Murree and nearby hill stations, including Galyat and Nathiagali, starting December 30.
This weather is expected to continue until January 2, covering New Year’s Eve.
Earlier, the Met Office warned that a western weather system entering the country on December 30 could bring rain and snow over the next two to three days.
The advisory says the system will get stronger tomorrow. Rain is expected in the upper and central parts of Islamabad and nearby areas.
Snowfall is forecasted for Naran, Kaghan, Swat, Dir, Murree, Galyat, and Skardu. Heavy snow may cause road closures.
Section 144 in Murree
New Year celebrations in Murree will face strict restrictions as Section 144 has been imposed.
The DPO said this step aims to ensure a peaceful environment for visiting families.
According to the notification, only families can access Murree Mall Road for the next two days.
Bachelor tourists will not be allowed there, but can visit other areas.
Advisory for Murree travel
Deputy Commissioner Murree, Agha Zaheer, advised visitors to check the latest weather updates before travelling.
The district administration has also made tyre chains mandatory in areas prone to snowfall to prevent skidding and accidents on steep, slippery roads.
Tourists have been further advised to keep vehicle tyres properly inflated for better traction.
Additionally, to maintain full fuel tanks to avoid breakdowns or delays in freezing weather.
