The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that Pakistan supports the unity and territorial integrity of Yemen.
“Pakistan welcomes the call by Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) to hold comprehensive talks in Riyadh and once again urges all Yemeni stakeholders to engage in good faith towards a negotiated political solution based on agreed parameters”, the ministry said.
It added, “Pakistan reaffirms its steadfast support for the unity and territorial integrity of Yemen.”
“Guided by the principles of unity and brotherhood, Pakistan hopes that regional efforts will contribute to bringing lasting peace and stability to Yemen”, the statement concluded.
In another development, Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry has welcomed a request from Yemen’s Saudi-backed Presidential Leadership Council for a forum in Riyadh to resolve a deadly factional rift in the country’s south that has stoked armed conflict there and triggered tensions between Gulf Arab nations.
Deadly tensions have erupted in recent days, after the separatist group Southern Transitional Council (STC) launched a major offensive in Yemen’s Hadramout and al-Mahra provinces, which make up nearly half of Yemen’s territory.
Egypt also reaffirmed its firm support for Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, stressing the importance of preserving national state institutions and safeguarding the resources of the Yemeni people.
“Only comprehensive solutions addressing the root causes of the crisis can end the conflict and fulfil Yemenis’ aspirations for security, stability and development,” the ministry added.
