Major Motorways shuts down due to Fog

Web Desk:  Due to heavy fog the traffic flow has been disrupted on national highways and various motorways. Motorway police to ensure the safety of life and property has close key motorway.    

According to motorway police that due to dense fog Lahore to Multan Motorway (M-3) has been completely closed.   

And, from Lahore to Kot Momin the M-2 Motorway has been closed for heavy vehicles due to low visibility caused by fog.

Similarly, From Pindi Bhattian to Multan M-4 Motorway and the M- Motorway from Multan to Rohri have also been closed due to fag.

As per the spokesperson the closures aim to prevent possible accidents and protect the public’s lives and property.

The authorities have warned that on motorway lane violations in dense fog could lead to serious accidents.

Lahore is the world’s most polluted city

Earlier it was reported that Lahore was number one in the list of the world’s most polluted cities. The city has an AQI of 184 as of 5:00pm PKT.

Following Lahore, Kolkata, and Delhi has the worst quality. The cities of Hanoi and Dhaka are also in the top five cities. Lahore’s AQI level hit 412, which is extremely hazardous.

The PM2.5 concentration was measured at 249.5 µg/m³, nearly 50 times higher than the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) annual air quality guideline.

The worst-affected areas were Iqbal Town, Syed Maratib Ali Road, Shadman, the Punjab University area and Shalimar.

The tech-driven initiative identified over 460 smog-related violations so it could be the reason behind this much bad air quality.

Punjab govt’s measures after Lahore’s bad air quality

In another development, the Punjab government has revised the schools’ timings.

The timings will be now from 8:45am to 1:30pm.

The Punjab government has intensified its crackdown on smoke-emitting kilns, factories, and vehicles.

Teams from the Environment and Forest departments are operating round the clock to monitor violations.

Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb urged the citizens to stay indoors during early morning and evening hours and to report any incidents of crop burning immediately.

Authorities reiterated that the government is enforcing a strict zero-tolerance policy on the burning of crop residues to curb worsening air pollution.
