Fog Update: Dense fog shuts down several motorways

A blanket of dense fog enveloped Islamabad on early Friday, slashing visibility to near zero in several areas, slowing traffic to a crawl and prompting traffic authorities to issue safety advisories amid mounting concerns over public health and road safety.

In most of the parts of the capital visibility fell to less than five meters that plunging usually busy streets into an eerie stillness during the morning rush.

Traffic officers were deployed across major roads in the capital and intersections to manage bottlenecks and assist travelers.

The police are patrolling the key locations including the Islamabad Expressway, Faizabad Checkpoint and other surrounding areas.

The authorities have directed officers to enforce lane discipline, prevent traffic jams, and remain vigilant amid reduced visibility.

The city traffic moved at a snail’s pace on the roads as the visibility did not improve till 09 am. In the office goers faced difficulties while going to their destinations.

Also due to thick fog the M-2 Motorway has been closed to all types of traffic from the Main Toll Plaza in Islamabad to Lillah and traffic on the M-14 Motorway between Hakla and Daudkhel has also been closed due to severe fog.

As per the Motorway Police the closure of motorways is aimed at preventing accidents and ensuring the safety of the lives and property of motorway users.

The Motorway Police spokesperson has advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and to check motorway conditions before starting their journey.
