The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has said that the reports circulating on social media about severe or record breaking cold wave expected across the country from January 16 to 25, are false and misleading.
According to the PMD, analysis based on modern weather models and ground observations shows no indication of any unusual or historic cold spell during this period, with temperatures likely to remain within normal winter ranges.

The department has said that the public, media, and institutions to rely only on official weather forecasts, warnings, and advisories and to avoid spreading unverified information that could cause unnecessary panic.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has also forecast a new spell of intermittent rain and snowfall is expected to begin in most parts of the country from the middle of the next week.

The system is likely to enter the upper regions of the country on January 16. It is expected to continue until January 19.
The Met Office also said that a weak westerly weather system will enter the country.
This system is expected to intensify from January 20. From January 21, this system may affect parts of Pakistan.
Between January 16 and 19, rain and snowfall are expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, including Diamer, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shigar.
