Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a rain alert from today with temperatures suspected to drop further in central and southern districts of the province.
Murree, the Galiyat and other hilly areas will experience heavy rainfall and snowfall from January 20 to 23 with a downpour of rainfall expected in most districts of Punjab, according to PDMA.
PDMA listed Lahore, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Sahiwal, Multan, Faisalabad, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur divisions as the areas which are to expect rainfall.
Alerts have been issued to departments such as local government, health, transport, police and Rescue 1122. All local authorities have been advised to set precautionary measures in place to prevent any delays in emergencies.
Rescue 1122 teams will remain on standby in case of any crises with round-the-clock emergency control rooms fully operational.
Tourists and citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and to check official guidelines by local authorities.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia instructed Murree authorities, in particular to remain on high alert with facilitation centers operating in different locations to ensure timely assistance.
With the situation being monitored closely, concerned citizens have been advised to contact the PDMA Punjab helpline at 1129.
