Sindh: Minister urged to revise new grading system

Sindh: Chairman Haider Ali demands issuance of specification table for new grading policy

Chairman Haider Ali of the All Sindh Private Schools and Colleges Association has urged Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah to immediately issue a uniform examination syllabus and examination paper standards.

He added that teachers and students would find it challenging to prepare according to the new procedures in the last 3 months of the academic year.

He further stressed upon the need for all Sindh education boards to announce a final decision on the policy for grades 9 and 11.

The education boards of Sindh failed to implement the policy in 2025, despite the notification of the new grading policy issued on October 15, 2024. If an examination syllabus and standard examination are not issued on a first priority basis, it would become impossible to implement it this year, he added.

Chairman Haider Ali finally requested Sindh Universities and Boards Minister Muhammad Ismail Rahu to issue a notification to all education boards to take an urgent and final decision on the e-marking and grading policy.

If the boards do not take a decision on the e-marking and grading policy as soon as possible, it would make it impossible to accept it this year, he added.

A new grading policy

Today, the Department of Universities and Boards issued the notification of a new grading system for matriculation and intermediate levels, effective from the 2026 annual examinations.

The department added that the system will apply to grades 9 and 11, while grades 10 and 12 will adopt it from 2027.

This decision was made during a meeting of the heads of all Sindh education boards in September 2025.

IBCC Executive Director Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah said the decision came after several universities expressed reservations about the adoption of GPA-based admissions. He added that the new grading policy would be implemented from 2026 without GPA.

Chairman Haider Ali welcomed the notification of the revised new grading policy that came on 12 January, 2026.
