A tragic incident has occurred in Chitral, where nine members of the same family were killed when an avalanche struck the Srigal Damil Arandu area.”
According to Deputy Commissioner Chitral, Rao Hashim, rescue teams have recovered the bodies of the deceased from the avalanche site, while a child was pulled out alive from beneath the debris. The rescued child was immediately shifted for medical treatment.
The deputy commissioner confirmed that the bodies of the victims have been transported to Wardap Darosh, Chitral, where funeral arrangements are underway. He added that rescue and relief operations were carried out despite challenging weather conditions in the mountainous region.
Meanwhile, rescue operations are continuing in other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as heavy snowfall has affected several areas. Authorities are actively working to relocate internally displaced persons (IDPs) trapped in the Tirah Valley of Khyber District to safer locations amid severe weather conditions.
On the other hand, heavy snowfall in the upper reaches of Lak has paralysed daily life, while tourists remain stranded due to road closures.
Authorities have closed Murree to tourists amid severe weather conditions. Reports indicate that two people have died in various incidents, while dozens have sustained injuries. Rain and snowfall are also predicted in several areas today.
According to the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), intermittent snowfall has been continuing in Malka Kohsar Murree since last night and has lasted for over 15 hours. Snowfall is still ongoing in the area.
The PDMA has forecast rain and heavy snowfall in Malka Kohsar during the next 24 hours. Entry of non-local tourists into Murree has been banned. Residents are being allowed to enter only after verification of their identity cards, while all other types of traffic have been barred from entering the hill station.
