How many snow-covered highways have reopened for traffic?

Continuous snowfall and severe cold weather in Pakistan’s upper regions had badly blocked the major highways. However, after some time, most of the snow-covered highways were cleared and reopened for traffic. Below is a detailed list of the highways that have been fully cleared.

According to the National Highway Authority (NHA) press release, all major national highways in Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Northern Areas are now fully open to traffic. Access on the N-25 at Khojak Top and the N-50 between Kan Mehtarzai and Muslim Bagh has also been completely restored for commuters.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the majority of the road network has been cleared, with intensive efforts ongoing on the N-145 Chitral, Garam Chashma road, it noted.

The section from Chitral to Rogee is currently operating with one-way traffic as crews work to remove multiple avalanches between kilometres 31 and 33.

Meanwhile, the stretch from Skardu to Gabor has been fully reopened, and clearance work continues between Gabor and Saslaim to remove remaining blockages.

NHA teams, supported by heavy machinery, have been working around the clock to mitigate the effects of continuous snowfall in Murree and the Galyat region.

Despite a significant influx of tourists, the Murree Expressway has remained open for all vehicles. Regular salt-sprinkling operations have been carried out to prevent accidents caused by slippery conditions, ensuring safe and smooth traffic flow.

Overall, the NHA has made substantial progress in restoring road access across the country, ensuring connectivity and safety for all commuters during challenging winter conditions.
