Residents of Multan Division will receive major relief in commuting, as a plan has been finalised to launch an electric bus service aimed at providing a modern, safe, and environmentally friendly public transport system.
As many as 470 bus shelters would be constructed for 114 electric buses in Multan Division. The decision was taken during an important meeting held under the chairmanship of Commissioner Multan Division, Aamir Karim Khan.
Addressing the meeting, Commissioner Aamir Karim Khan said the electric bus service would mark a significant step toward modern urban transportation, providing convenience to the public while contributing to environmental protection. Deputy Commissioner Multan informed participants that in the first phase, 45 electric buses would be launched on three routes in the city.
In another meeting chaired by the Commissioner, a comprehensive review of administrative matters, civic facilities, and public safety measures was conducted. Taking notice of a recent accident, the Commissioner directed concerned departments to ensure strict safety measures regarding manhole covers across the division.
Meanwhile, the Divisional Administration Multan has imposed a complete ban on kite flying throughout Multan Division to protect human lives, maintain law and order, and uphold the rule of law.
It is worth mentioning here that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif had already announced the arrival of 1,100 modern electric buses from Shanghai, China, in 2026. The new fleet is set to revolutionise public transport in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and other major cities across the province.
