Black box recordings recovered from Libyan army chief plane crash

Black box recordings of the plane crash that took the lives of Libya’s Army Chief along with his delegation, have been recovered on Wednesday.

The voice recordings reveal the main source of the fatal plane crash. Shortly after takeoff, multiple onboard generators failed.

The plane, Falcon 50 had Libyan Army Chief, Lt. Gen. Mohammed al-Haddad onboard and went down in a deadly crash on December 23, 2025. It took place near the Haymana district which is located on the South of Ankara, Turkey.

According to sources, the Libyan military commander was returning to Libya after an official visit to Turkey. Other casualties reported were seven military personnel including members of the Libyan delegation and foreign crew members.

In a statement, the Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, said that the pilots while in close contact with the air traffic control, repeatedly relayed electrical failures. The voice recordings from the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) were inspected and analysed in the United Kingdom (UK).

The Minister further revealed that the plane’s second generator failed after two minutes of takeoff with the third generator failing just seconds later.

Initially, the pilots issued the second-highest emergency signal of aviation, the ‘PAN-PAN’ call. The distress signal was made to request returning to Esenboğa Airport. They resorted to manual guidance after the failure of onboard systems.

After several unsuccessful attempts, the pilots finally issued a ‘MAYDAY’ emergency alert. The aircraft then crashed before reaching the airport.
