During the elections which are still in progress, Tarique Rahman’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced that it has secured a majority on Thursday and intends to establish the next government.
The Jamuna TV broadcaster, referencing provisional results, reports that the BNP and its allies have won 211 out of 299 constituency seats, whereas the opposing Jamaat-e-Islami alliance has obtained 70 seats.
BNP claims majority
Local media outlets in Bangladesh are reporting victories in the ongoing elections for several BNP representatives, based on provisional results.
Salahuddin Ahmed, a prominent BNP leader and former minister, has been elected from Cox’s Bazar-1 in southeastern Bangladesh, garnering 220,566 votes, thereby defeating his closest competitor who received 124,726 votes.
Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, a previous commerce minister, secured election from Chattogram-11 in the southeast with a total of 115,021 votes, surpassing his nearest competitor who garnered 73,752 votes.
Lutfozzaman Babar, a former state minister for home affairs, triumphed in Netrokona-4 in north-central Bangladesh with a lead of 119,824 votes.
Mirza Abbas was elected from Dhaka-8 in the capital, defeating his closest opponent by a margin exceeding 5,000 votes.
Fazlur Rahman achieved victory in Kishoreganj-4 in the north-central haor region, receiving 129,954 votes and defeating his nearest competitor who obtained 57,326 votes.
Reza Kibria was elected in Habiganj-1 in the northeast, amassing 111,073 votes. Bobby Hajjaj won in Dhaka-13 with 90,601 votes, narrowly overcoming his opponent who received 86,889 votes.
BNP has also published a post on social media to commemorate its victories in the elections. “The Bangladesh Nationalist Party is poised to establish the government after securing the majority of seats” , stated the BNP Media Cell.
Vote counting for the elections is still ongoing in Bangladesh, with local media providing updates based on preliminary tallies released by the chief electoral officer for various districts.
Nevertheless, the results website for the Bangladesh Election Commission is currently unavailable. The Election Commission is anticipated to make its announcement within the next few hours.
