The Prime Minister (PM) of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, has rejected the claims of Geo News about refugee seats.

According to the post on X, formerly known as Twitter, PM Faisal Rathore said that Geo News has done nothing but misreport.

In his post, he said, “I’ve always maintained that the current status of these seats needs to be changed. The formula of refugees’ representation needs to be retuned. Nobody can disenfranchise or deprive our refugees of their right to representation in the legislative assembly.”

Meanwhile, Geo News, on July 1, reported that Faisal Rathore has commented that the best way to secure political rights is through political struggle, not protests or unrest. As far as the refugee (Muhajireen) seats are concerned, their current status is unacceptable.

Faisal Mumtaz Rathore said that the abolition of the refugee (Muhajireen) seats is not a matter of grievance or complaint, but a legitimate demand.

PM Faisal Rathore on 11:54pm of July 1 countered the report of Geo News on X, calling it a misreporting.

Geo News is already facing a license suspension due to a controversial broadcast in its special transmission during Muharram ul Haraam.

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Monitoring Wing on June 27 suspended the license of the channel for 15 days.

PEMRA stated that Geo News have hurt the religious sentiments of the viewers, and also have seek guidance from the Islamic Ideology Council, which is yet to be answered.
