Senior politician, former MPA Zaeem Qadri passes away

Senior Pakistani politician and a former Member of the Punjab Assembly, Zaeem Qadri, has died today.

According to media reports, he had been under treatment at a private hospital for the last three days on account of a heart ailment.

According to family sources, today, the funeral prayer of the deceased will be offered after Maghrib prayers on Lawrence Road.

Currently, he was the spokesperson of Awam Pakistan Party.

Political and social circles are expressing great sorrow and grief at his passing.

Zaeem Qadri was married to Syeda Uzma Sadaf Qadri, and they had a son, Syed Ali Qadri.

Zaeem Qadri was not just a politician but a lawyer too. He had been a member of the provincial assembly of Punjab from 2008 to May 2018. He was also an executive member of Lahore Gymkhana.

Before quitting in 2018, he was a very important member of the Pakistan Muslim League (N). He was a provincial minister, an adviser to then Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and also the spokesperson of Punjab’s government.

In 2016, he was in the Punjab provincial cabinet as Minister of Auqaf and Religious Affairs. He eventually left PML-N in 2018 and contested the 2018 general election as an independent candidate.

The split was fueled because of a rivalry with Hamza Shehbaz. The split was one of the most talked-about departures in recent Punjab’s political history.

He was born on December 25 1964, in Lahore, Punjab.

Zaeem Qadri obtained the degree of LLB, the Bachelor of Laws, from Quaid-e-Azam Law College. He obtained it in 1988.

He did his Master’s in Business Administration from the Canadian School of Management Sciences in 1991.

His uncle, Syed Shamim Hussain Qadri, was also a politician and served as the chief justice of Lahore High Court.

Zaeem Qadri’s political journey had its ups and downs. In 2006, he also faced a brief imprisonment due to his protests over the Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy.

This incident showcases his ability to readily confront national and international issues.
