T20 World Cup: Indian Skipper makes interesting remark about handshake

Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav has expressed full confidence in his team’s preparations ahead of the high-voltage encounter against Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup.

Speaking at a press conference in Colombo on the eve of the much-anticipated clash, Suryakumar acknowledged the strength of Pakistan’s bowling unit, particularly their spin attack.

He said the team management has devised its strategy keeping Pakistan’s potent spinners in mind.

Responding a question about the post-match handshake, the Indian captain smiled and replied, ‘Wait a bit, eat some good bread, we’ll know tomorrow what’s going to happen.” His response sparked laughter from the journalists present at the press conference.  ‘Pakistan’s spin attack is very strong. We have prepared our plans accordingly,” the Indian skipper said.

The Indian captain emphasised that while pressure is inevitable in marquee contests, the team remains focused on playing positive cricket. ‘Pressure is natural in big matches, but our focus is on maintaining a positive approach and executing our plans effectively,” he added.

Suryakumar made it clear that the players will step onto the field with complete concentration and will aim to deliver their best performance in every department of the game.

Earlier, in a high-scoring encounter at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Ireland registered a commanding 96-run victory over Oman in Colombo, marking their first win of the tournament.

After winning the toss, Oman opted to field first, hoping to restrict the Irish batting line-up. However, Ireland delivered a dominant performance with the bat, piling up an imposing total of 235 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs.

Lorcan Tucker led the charge with a blistering 94, narrowly missing out on a century, while Gareth Delany provided solid support with a well-crafted 56.

For Oman, Shakeel Ahmed was the standout bowler, claiming three wickets. Shah Faisal and Aamir Kaleem chipped in with one wicket each, but the bowling unit struggled to contain Ireland’s aggressive stroke play.
