Why talented all-rounder Shemar Joseph’s contract cancelled?

Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Islamabad United has confirmed the cancellation of the contract of West Indies all-rounder Shemar Joseph, just days after securing his services in the PSL 11 players auction.

The 26-year-old Caribbean cricketer was bought by the three-time PSL champions at his base price during the auction on February 11, but the franchise and player have now parted ways by mutual consent, according to sources.

While neither Islamabad United nor Joseph has issued a detailed public statement, reports indicate the decision follows past allegations against Joseph, which sparked backlash and raised concerns among stakeholders.

To bolster their squad ahead of the upcoming season, Islamabad United have moved swiftly to bring in Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani as an immediate replacement, subject to approval from the PSL administration.

Muzarabani, 29, possesses prior PSL experience and is expected to strengthen United’s pace attack. The franchise expressed optimism that his inclusion will add depth to their bowling lineup as they aim for a strong campaign.

It is worth mentioning to her that, despite nursing a painful toe injury, Shamar Joseph had produced a stunning 7‑68 to power the West Indies to their first Test victory in Australia in 27 years in a thrilling finish at the Gabba in 2024.

Joseph, who had limped off late after being hit by a fierce yorker from Mitchell Starc in the closing moments of West Indies’ second innings, ripped through the Australian batting line‑up to bowl them out for 207 and secure an unforgettable eight‑run triumph.
