Qatar has announced a long-term residency program to attract skilled global talent, entrepreneurs, business founders, and top-level executives.

Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani revealed at Web Summit Qatar 2026 that this program supports the nation’s goals of economic diversification, innovation, and building a stronger knowledge-based economy away from heavy reliance on energy resources.

The program provides eligible applicants with stable, renewable residency options typically structured as five-year permits that can extend up to 10 years, allowing them to live, work, establish or expand businesses, and integrate into Qatar’s vibrant ecosystem.

Participants gain advantages such as family sponsorship, access to business accelerators, mentorship, streamlined regulatory support, and partnerships that help lower living costs.

Who Qualifies for the Program?

The residency focuses on two main categories:

Entrepreneurs and Founders

  • Ideal for individuals launching or scaling innovative ventures aligned with Qatar’s priority sectors (e.g., technology, fintech, or high-growth industries).
    Key requirements often include:
  • Endorsement from approved Qatari business incubators (such as Qatar Science and Technology Park, Qatar Fintech Hub, Qatar Development Bank programs, or similar recognized entities).
  • Proof of sufficient financial stability (e.g., minimum bank balance around QAR 36,500 over recent months).
  • Ownership stake or active role in the business.

Senior Executives

  • Targeted at experienced leaders already in or moving to Qatar for high-level roles.
    Typical criteria:
  • Nomination by a qualifying employer (e.g., public shareholding companies, banks, financial institutions, or approved consulting firms).
  • Minimum monthly salary thresholds (e.g., QAR 50,000 for roles like CEO, CFO, CTO, COO, or Chairman; QAR 80,000 for other executive director positions).
  • At least five years of senior management experience.
  • Valid employment contract in Qatar.

Note: This is not open to general workers, freelancers, or retirees; eligibility emphasises significant economic or innovative contributions.

Benefits

Approved holders enjoy:

  • Long-term, self-sponsored stay with renewal options up to 10 years.
  • Ability to sponsor family members and domestic staff.
  • Support for business setup, including priority access to incubators, accelerators, and venture networks.
  • Reduced living expenses through partner discounts and ecosystem perks.
  • Opportunities to own property or businesses in many cases (though separate real estate-based residency exists with investment thresholds).
