Kuwait to introduce sponsor free freelance residence visa

Kuwait is planning a major reform for expatriates, introducing a freelance residence permit that allows skilled foreign workers to start businesses without a local sponsor, according to reports on Friday.

It is being called a significant and welcome development that has emerged for expatriates living in Kuwait.

How can Pakistanis work in Kuwait without any sponsor?

The Kuwaiti government is seriously considering introducing a “freelance residence permit” that does not require a sponsor.

Under this system, skilled foreign professionals will be able to start small businesses independently.

According to foreign media, Kuwait’s Interior Minister Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Al-Sabah announced in Kuwait City that the scheme aims to provide expatriates with legal and dignified work opportunities.

Under the proposed system, applicants will have to pay an annual fee of approximately 800 to 1,000 Kuwaiti Dinar. This is expected to curb the illegal sale and purchase of visas.

The minister further emphasised that the timely payment of employees’ salaries is a “red line” and no negligence will be tolerated in this matter.

In addition to this, provisions will be made to support parents in sponsoring children under 18 years of age.

Authorities have further said that strict action will continue against violations of the law.

Last year, thousands of violators were deported, and several companies were closed for non-compliance.

Reports indicate that the new freelance residence permit system could be implemented within the next few months.

It is expected to open new avenues for legal employment in Kuwait, provided all individuals fully comply with local laws.

Can Pakistanis clear UAE immigration before flying?

Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have agreed on a formal arrangement for pre immigration clearance for Pakistani citizens travelling to the UAE.

According to the Ministry of Interior, after signing the agreement, Pakistani travellers will no longer have to go through long immigration procedures upon arrival in the UAE.

The decision was made during a meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and a UAE delegation led by Director General of Customs and Port Security Ahmed bin Lahij Al Falasi.
