All commercial bank branches, including NBP branches, will remain open from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM on February 28.
This measure has been implemented to help taxpayers conveniently make over-the-counter (OTC) payments for government duties and taxes.
According to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) press release, ‘Banks have been advised to keep the relevant branches open on February 28, 2026, for as long as required to facilitate the Special Clearing for Government transactions conducted through NIFT.”
The banks have also been instructed to ensure uninterrupted access to online payment channels, including internet banking, mobile applications, ATMs, and other digital platforms, to enable the seamless payment of government duties and taxes.
Earlier, the SBP had announced revised office and banking hours for the month of Ramadan 2026, which will be observed by all banks, development finance institutions (DFIs), and microfinance banks nationwide.
It is worth mentioning here that the Federal Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection had earlier announced the Zakat deduction threshold for 2026. All banks deducted Zakat on the first day of Ramzan rather than through public collections.
The announcement aims to streamline Zakat collection and ensure timely distribution for social welfare programs.
Account holders had advised to review their bank statements and submit self-declarations if they wish to manage Zakat independently.
