The federal government on Friday imposed an immediate and complete ban on flying drones outdoors across the country, citing risk to public safety. This ban applies to both recreational and commercial drones.
According to official orders, the use of drones for any purpose is now prohibited. The objective of this decision is to improve the security situation. The federal government has also directed all provincial governments to ensure the strict enforcement of this ban.
Strict action will be taken against anyone who violates the law. The ban on flying drones takes effect immediately, starting today.
Punjab govt also imposes ban on outdoor drone
A few days earlier, the Punjab Home Department had imposed a complete ban on flying drones across the province under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). The order was issued immediately from Lahore on February 25, 2026, and will remain in effect for 30 days.
According to the Home Department, the use of unregulated drones has been declared a threat to law and order, with concerns about potential interference in security operations and government affairs. The decision has been taken to protect public life and property in view of the current law and order situation.
Under the order, outdoor drone flying is completely banned within the territorial limits of Punjab. However, limited and safe use of small drones will be permitted at indoor events, such as in halls and marquees. The responsibility for indoor drone use will rest with the event organisers.
Law enforcement and intelligence agencies have been exempted from the ban and will be allowed to operate drones with proper authorisation.
The Home Department has warned that legal action will be taken against anyone who violates the order. All relevant institutions have been directed to ensure strict implementation of the ban.
