PHC Reserves Verdict Regarding CM KP Oath

Previously, the Peshawar High Court (PHC) had reserved its verdict on the petition seeking the oath-taking of newly elected Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.

A bench led by Chief Justice SM Attique Shah had heard the case filed by provincial assembly members, including the KP Assembly speaker, under Article 255 of the Constitution.

The petition urged the court to ensure the immediate swearing-in of the new chief executive.

During the hearing, the chief justice asked whether the governor had agreed to administer the oath. The additional attorney general replied that the matter would be decided once the governor returns.

Earlier, the PHC had directed the Additional Advocate General to confirm Governor Faisal Karim Kundi’s availability for administering the oath.

The court had asked for an update before 1 pm.

Meanwhile, a summary regarding the chief minister’s election and oath-taking has reached the Governor’s House.

Speaker Babar Saleem Sawati sent the summary, requesting the governor to administer the oath to Sohail Afridi, sources said.
