Karachi Police issues 'public safety' advisory for citizens

A public safety advisory released by the Karachi Police advises citizens to refrain from permitting unfamiliar individuals to access their residences and workplaces amid the ongoing Pak Afghan war.

It has become compulsory to conduct thorough verification of domestic helpers, drivers, and security personnel.

The advisory emphasises the necessity of registering with the appropriate police station prior to employing a tenant and urges individuals to immediately report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station.

Citizens are instructed to refrain from disseminating unverified information on social media and to avoid surrendering their identity documents to unrelated parties.

It also encouraged citizens to adhere to the guidance provided by security personnel and to promptly follow instructions given at police checkpoints or during clearance operations.

Additionally, it urged citizens to verify information and refrain from disseminating “panic content” on social media.

The public safety advisory highlighted a recent false threat alert circulating on social media concerning several shopping centers and commercial areas, which instigated “fear and panic” among the public.

It suggested that citizens “depend on official communications from Sindh Police, local administration, or government press briefings”.

Air travelers advised to leave earlier to avoid delays

Moreover, air travelers were advised to depart from their homes for the airport at least one hour earlier than usual due to enhanced screening, stop-and-search protocols, and increased security measures around the airport and key locations.

It specified that only one visitor or attendant should accompany each passenger to the designated drop-off or pick-up area to prevent overcrowding at the airport.

In accordance with the public safety advisory, Karachi police also instructed citizens to always have their computerized national identity cards (CNICs) on their person, as these may be necessary for verification at different checkpoints.

“National security forces and law enforcement agencies are thoroughly equipped to address threats and safeguard citizens. Every measure is aimed at ensuring peace, stability, and public safety,” the advisory stated.
