The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has issued a warning to the public after receiving several complaints about fraudulent e-challan messages sent to citizens from unauthorised numbers.
The PSCA spokesperson stated that scammers are sending fake e-challan SMS alerts from the number 8070 to mislead people. The authority clarified that official e-challan notifications are only sent from the Punjab government’s designated number, 9915.
PSCA said that Safe City authorities never ask for cash payments, bank account details, or debit and credit card information through SMS messages. Citizens have been strongly advised to avoid clicking on suspicious links or making payments through unknown or unverified websites.
The spokesperson added that a genuine e-challan message always contains full details of the violation, including the time, location and type of traffic offence.
The authority has urged citizens to stay alert and immediately report any suspicious messages by contacting the Emergency Helpline 15 or reaching out to the Federal Investigation Agency Cyber Crime Wing.
