Govt decides to maintain petroleum levy on petrol, diesel

The Government of Pakistan has increased the price of kerosene to Rs 358.01 per litre, a rise of Rs 29.20 per litre.

Under this decision, the petroleum levy on petrol and diesel will also be maintained to support the country’s revenue. According to the federal government, the levy on petrol remains Rs 105.37 per litre, and on diesel Rs 55.54 per litre.

The Ministry of Energy stated that due to tensions in the Middle East, the government has also raised petrol and diesel prices by Rs 55 per litre. However, to ease the burden on the public, base prices are being kept stable, and a subsidy has been announced.

Under the subsidy, Rs 49.03 per litre will be provided for petrol and Rs 75.05 per liter for diesel. The subsidy will be effective from March 14 to March 20 and is estimated to cost a total of Rs 33 billion.

The Ministry of Energy clarified that the subsidy amount will be paid to oil marketing companies through price differential claims, with OGRA completing the payment process.
