Afghan claims of a Pakistani strike on Kabul’s Omid Hospital are fake and contradicted by evidence.
Propaganda was done by using an old photo and misidentification of the actual target, which was Sarshar Camp Omid (a former US military installation known as Camp Phoenix), not the hospital.
Propaganda circulating by Afghan sources about a Pakistani strike against the hospital in Kabul is contradicted by provable evidence and points toward a coordinated pattern of disinformation.
The image used by an Afghan regime spokesperson to make allegations of civilian casualties is not a recent picture.
It dates back three years and it was actually released by the Interior Ministry of Afghanistan in early 2023.
Its reuse in this context has created serious questions about the credibility of the narrative that is being constructed.
Further look reveals attempts of to portray the civilian Omid Hospital as the actual strike location.
Omid Hospital is in a high population residential area and unharmed.
In contrast to this, the actual targeted location was Sarshar Camp Omid, a former US military installation known as Camp Phoenix which was identified as a storage facility of ammunition and military equipment.
There are also visual inconsistencies that undermine Afghan Taliban’s claims. While Afghan accounts claim a hospital building was totally destroyed, the accompanying images have a hospital signboard and flag intact.
Such preservation is highly unlikely in the case of a strike of the magnitude being described meaning that the visuals had been staged.
Afghan Guard’s Account Disputes Claims
An eyewitness security guard stationed at a nearby drug rehabilitation centre also debunks the story.
According to the guard, the strike took place some 200 meters from the facility, not on the hospital premises.
He said that minor injuries were only reported and all those who were affected were in a stable situation.
Also the fact that there was anti-aircraft gun fire in the vicinity, proves that this was a military compound.
