The Punjab Finance Department has issued a notification announcing salary deductions for government employees as part of contributions to a federal emergency fund.

According to the notification, officers in Grade 17 and above will have two days’ salary deducted, which will be deposited into the emergency fund established by the Government of Pakistan.

In addition, Maryam Nawaz, along with provincial ministers, special assistants, and advisers, will forgo two months’ salaries voluntarily. Parliamentary secretaries will also follow the same decision.

The move was formally approved by the Punjab cabinet as part of efforts to support the federal government during challenging economic conditions.

Furthermore, members of the Punjab Assembly will face a 25% salary deduction for the next two months.

Officials said the decision reflects solidarity with the federal government and aims to help meet urgent financial needs during a difficult economic period.

Earlier, the Government of Pakistan announced new administrative decisions to strengthen austerity and fuel conservation measures in the country, according to the latest reports on Sunday.

According to an official statement issued by the Cabinet Division, Shehbaz Sharif reviewed the recommendations of a committee formed to monitor fuel conservation and additional austerity measures.

After the review, he directed the implementation of further steps.

Two month salary cut for senior govt officials

According to the details, the decision was taken in continuation of earlier instructions issued by the Cabinet Division.

The government said that due to the current economic conditions and the need for careful use of resources, it is necessary to reduce government spending and limit energy consumption in public institutions.

As part of these measures, the government has decided to cut the salaries of senior management in government and semi-government institutions for two months.

The statement said the decision will apply to the senior management of all legal and autonomous bodies, regulatory authorities, and the state owned enterprises.

The salary cut will affect officials holding senior positions such as chief executive officers, executive directors, directors, and senior administrators.

Prime Minister’s Austerity Fund

According to the statement, the amount collected from the salary cuts will be deposited in the Prime Minister’s Austerity Fund.

The government has also said that the fund will be used to support the implementation of austerity policies and ensure better use of national resources.

The details further added that the salary deduction rates will be applied according to specific grades. Additionally, the collected amount will be transferred directly to the fund.

The government said the step is part of a broader strategy to reduce public spending and promote careful use of energy resources.
