Rawalpindi steps up dengue fight with 1,000 new hires

The Rawalpindi District Health Authority has announced the recruitment of 1,000 daily-wage dengue surveillance workers as part of this year’s anti-dengue campaign.

The hiring will include 900 women and 100 men. These workers will be deployed in Cantt and Potohar Town areas, already declared high-risk for dengue.

The new recruits will work alongside 1,237 existing staff members to strengthen surveillance and prevention efforts across the district.

Workers to conduct indoor dengue surveillance

The newly recruited workers will conduct door-to-door indoor dengue surveillance. Their responsibilities will include raising public awareness, identifying dengue larvae, and ensuring their elimination.

These workers will initially be hired for a period of three months, with the possibility of an extension based on need.

Sources within the District Health Authority state that an additional 500 workers may be recruited before the start of the dengue season to ensure comprehensive surveillance and minimize the risk of outbreaks.

It is worth noting that during the previous dengue season, the district achieved a satisfactory control rate. No dengue-related deaths were reported, and all dengue-positive patients receiving treatment in hospitals recovered and were discharged.

Health experts warn sunshine ideal conditions for growth of dengue larvae

Health experts have warned that prolonged sunshine during the spring season creates ideal conditions for the growth of dengue larvae.

In response, authorities have acquired new spray pumps, chemicals, and testing kits and anti-dengue review meetings are scheduled to begin next week.

The government has also approved the hiring of male and female dengue workers on a daily-wage basis starting next month.
