The federal government has taken an important step to facilitate legal status for undocumented migrants in Spain, with nearly 15,000 Pakistanis expected to benefit from the Spanish regularisation scheme alongside nationals from other countries.

A special meeting, chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Salik Hussain, reviewed progress regarding the issuance of Spanish resident cards for Pakistani nationals.

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, the federal interior secretary, the secretary overseas Pakistanis, the Director General FIA, the additional secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Managing Director of OPF, and senior officials from NADRA and the Passport Department attended the meeting.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Spain Dr. Zahoor Ahmed, Consul General in Barcelona, Muhammad Ali Wazir, and the Community Welfare Attaché also participated in the meeting via Zoom.

According to Radio Pakistan, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said issuing passports promptly to overseas Pakistanis is a top priority.

It was informed that passports and other documents will be issued to Pakistanis within a week before the start of registration to give legal status to illegal immigrants in Spain.

Around fifteen thousand Pakistanis are expected to benefit from Spain’s scheme, along with citizens of other countries.

Chairing a meeting along with Minister for Overseas Pakistanis, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, stated that passports must not be issued to any criminal or wanted person.

The meeting reviewed progress regarding obtaining Spanish resident cards for Pakistanis.

The Minister for Overseas Pakistanis expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Interior for fully supporting Pakistanis residing in Spain.

Minister Salik Hussain stated that Pakistani applicants would be issued passports and other necessary documents within one week before the start of registration under Spain’s legalisation scheme. He added that approximately 15,000 Pakistanis are expected to benefit from the initiative.
