China backs Pakistan’s mediation efforts between US, Iran

China has expressed support for Pakistan’s efforts to mediate between the United States and Iran.

Speaking at a press briefing, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry described ceasefire efforts and peace talks as important steps toward de-escalation.

The spokesperson said China backs all initiatives aimed at reducing regional tensions. China further emphasised that peace and stability in the Middle East, along with the restoration of maritime transport routes, are in the broader interest of the international community.

The spokesperson added that China is also working actively to promote peace in the Middle East and maintains contact with all parties in the region.

Meanwhile, according to a Bloomberg report, Turkey is discouraging Arab countries from joining any conflict against Iran.

Ankara has urged Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and others to exercise restraint. Gulf countries are reportedly concerned that Iran could target and damage critical infrastructure such as electricity and water facilities.

Malaysia’s PM also welcomes Pakistan’s efforts

The Prime Minister (PM) of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim, has also welcomed Pakistan’s offer to facilitate the talks between the United States (US) and Iran on Wednesday.

The PM of Malaysia praised the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif’s diplomatic efforts towards peace. He also commended the efforts of friendly countries.

Additionally, the PM stressed on reducing tensions in the region, uniform international rules and serious diplomacy.

Pakistan ready to host, facilitate US-Iran talks: PM Shehbaz

Earlier, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, took to the social media platform X to announce that the country is ready to host and facilitate the talks between the US and Iran.

In the tweet, the Prime Minister stated that Pakistan welcomes and fully supports ongoing efforts to pursue dialogue to end the WAR in the Middle East. ‘In the interest of peace and stability in the region and beyond,’ he added.
