Pakistan reopens Torkham border

Torkham Border reopening Afghan refugees

The Government of Pakistan has temporarily reopened the Torkham Border to ensure the safe and dignified return of Afghan refugees. Authorities said the decision is part of the state policy to carry out the phased repatriation of undocumented Afghan nationals living in the country.

Border reopens for Afghan refugees’ return

The process began on March 26, 2026. Officials have directed key institutions, including the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), customs authorities, and the National Logistics Corporation (NLC), to ensure full coordination and readiness.

Security tightened, return process organised

Authorities have enforced strict security measures in Torkham, Landi Kotal, and nearby areas to protect the repatriation process from any threats. Officials said they will move refugees in an organised way through designated points, especially the Hamza Baba Camp, while keeping movement controlled at the initial stage to avoid mismanagement.

The government said the step shows its commitment to national security, better border management, and enforcement of immigration laws, while also ensuring a respectful return for Afghan refugees. Officials added that security forces and civilian institutions are working closely together to carry out the process smoothly.
